EduFlow 2016

Thursday, August 11, 2016 - 09:30 to 15:30
Aalto University Campus, Design Factory
Betonimiehenkuja 5, Espoo
Tapahtumatyyppi:
Redefining what we think is education. Get connected.

The discussion around education is heated. There are more tools, knowledge and opportunities available for learning than ever before. Educational institutions are faced with expectations to solve issues from troubled youths to global crises. How can we bridge the gap between the personal and universal and prepare citizens that want and can save the world.

Design thinking, rapid experimentation, behavioral design, informal and non-formal learning, innovation camps, learning labs, shared learning, and summer schools are just a few of the initiatives emerging with new kids on the block. How can we as educators, students, teachers, developers and learners ourselves successfully implement fresh approaches and new tools in everyday learning practices? How can we get better at what we do instead of just doing more? And keep sight of the forest for the trees?

EduFlow is an annual event organized by a group of enthusiastic and passionate educators, researchers, developers and students from around the world. Join us for an invigorating day and get inspired to re-create learning!

This workshop will produce a vision that will be thrown as a challenge to the organizers of next year’s Summer School 2017 at Aalto Campus. What will the new summer school be made out of, who will be there, how and what will participants learn and what will change as an outcome?

Workshop 2: Tools and Trades – recognizing informal and non-formal learning
Moderated by creative entrepreneur, educator and development director, Dr. Denise Stanley Collage Art, London, UK

This workshop will focus on recognizing and accrediting the higher level learning that takes place outside formal learning environments. What kind of role will non-formal and practice-based learning have in the future? What kinds of skills are acquired in non-formal contexts, and how will these meet the changing needs of the future? How are these higher level skills defined and recognized by a community of practice and how are they externally validated and by whom?

Workshop 3: Rapid Experimentation and Deal Design
Moderated by Co-Founder Mark Nelson, Peace Innovation Lab at Stanford University

This workshop enlights how behavior design can be used for creating positive co-engagement. We will demonstrate the Rapid Experimentation and Deal Design tool. It is based on many years of collaboration between Stanford and Aalto. Now the tool is applied for positive co-engagement of businesses and society.

14:30–15:30 Outputs and results of workshops are presented (moderated by Timo Nyberg and Silja Suntola)
