Lia Carreira (1985, Brazil) is a media artist, curator and researcher, currently based in Lisbon, Portugal. As an artist and curator she explores existing technologies as potential platforms for engagement and agency in order to discuss and unravel contemporary modes and understandings of being. Her research lies in the intersection of Curatorial Studies and Software Studies, addressing key challenges in curating software-based art.

Lia’s PhD project The exhibition space as a laboratory proposes to revisit past initiatives and document current strategies as to insert them within the historicization of curatorial practices, and to expand existing investigations in Curatorial Studies by taking into account the roles of and the relationships between the exhibition space, the laboratory and the experimental within those practices.

Lia is a PhD candidate at the Winchester School of Art of the Southampton University (UK), developing research on Curatorial Labs and experimental practices. She has a Master in Media Arts Cultures (Danube University, Aalborg University, University of Lodz and City University of Hong Kong), a first Master in Media Technologies and Aesthetics (UFRJ, Brazil) and a Bachelor in Media Studies (UFES, Brazil). liacarreira.github.io

Prognostics lectures map new areas of art, which challenge established forms of art, exhibition methods, and shake up societal norms and political thinking. Prognostics lecture series is supported by Saastamoinen Foundation.
