A need to understand those fundamentals of brass playing, which can be examined by laws of nature, has been the main motivation to make this website. The biggest work has been to collect the knowledge and put it into a simple, readily understandable form. The research made by instrument makers or acousticians often focus on instruments only, whereas brass players opinions are mostly based on individual feelings. Our purpose has been to extract closely argued knowledge and refer it into a practical form.

Sibelius Academy innovation centre considered this subject appropriate and possible to accomplish. Trumpet teacher Simo Rantanen took the initiative and he has composed the contents of this site using various brass method books and scientific literature. We want to mention especially some articles from ITG Journal (International Trumpet Guild) and consulting with acoustics experts from Technical University and IWK (Institut für Wiener Klangstihl).
