TEEMU KORPELA

My paintings assume a sculptural or installation-like form. I am interested in the way corporeal experiences are interconnected with concepts and associations, how painting materials are anthropomorphized, sacralized and lose their worth, and how, by presenting a painting in an unconventional way, you can alter the associations it evokes and the way it is perceived. My paintings are an inquiry into the history of the medium, re-inscribing its boundaries.

Conceptually, I am interested in corporeality, pleasure, solace, pain and fulfilment. I am perplexed by the perpetual cycle of production and consumption that people need in order to reaffirm their existence. Although I explore these themes within my own particular frame of reference, I want my paintings to stimulate thoughts about universal existential issues.
