HOW TO DO THINGS WITH WORDS
The purpose of matrimony is to create a family for the benefit of those belonging to it and for the continuance and welfare of society. Matrimony is intended to be lasting in order to permit the members of the family to build a happy home together.
In the presence of these witnesses I ask you X. X.
Will you marry this Y. Y. and love her in prosperity and adversity?
In the presence of these witnesses I ask you Y. Y.
Will you marry this X. X. and love him in prosperity and adversity?
In virtue of my office I pronounce you husband and wife.
As a token of your marriage please exchange rings.
As a token of your marriage please give your ring to your wife.
Take a ring from your husband as a token of your marriage.
You are now married. As a married couple you form a new family and now you begin a life together. Remember always that a husband and wife shall love each other and respect each other and support each other and do the best for the welfare of their family. You should endeavour that harmony and mutual understanding may always reign in your home.
