Abstract painting is a personal and deep form of expression. The author’s emotional experience, contemplation and interpreta- tion are hidden or intentionally presented in lines and colour constructions. The main theme of Riikka Ahlfors’ works is the simul- taneous moment represented in the painted angles. The surface of the canvas becomes a three-dimensional playground where the focus of the painting is the constructions.

Art is cornered in circumstances and social constructions. A corner is the place where two lines of different or similar di- mensions meet at an angle. For Ahlfors, a corner also works symbolically as the begin- ning and the end – as a sign of contempla- tion and timelessness. Perhaps the author or viewer needs to find a corner for meditation.
