WORLD IS NOT AS YOU ARE
I used to make up fictitious stories when I was younger. I enjoyed directing people’s attention and seeing how the suddenly-emerged spotlight created new topics out of thin air. Today I have huge respect for the great storytellers and their ability to entice viewers into a safe, obvious illusion of another reality. I do not wish to hide or fabricate my own traces, as I think that artistic work should remain transparent and easily approachable, if it is to maintain its appeal.
I am building a three-dimensional work into a closed space, which you can only observe from a partial reflection. A large mass of material is revealed through a mirror, which is small in comparison to the mass itself, disassociating the mass from its heavy essence.
Looking at the reflection is soothing to the senses, and it allows us to consider our own relationship with the universe and everything in it. Instead of reading and frantically deconstructing what we have seen, we can just let go and be disconnected from the confines of time.
Fortunately, it does not matter what we think about different things – they also exist independently from thoughts and stories.
