The portrait of Baroness Kerttu von Burghausen-Virtanen is revealed
The portrait of the former head of the municipal social administration in the city of Espoo, Baroness Kerttu von Burghausen-Virtanen, was revealed in the banqueting premises of the municipal social administration in Westend, Espoo, on the 5th of May, 2011. The portrait, painted by Petri Ala-Maunus (Master of Arts), will be on display in the portrait lounge of the city hall.
The artist says that his intention was to capture the inner courage with which Kerttu von Burghausen-Virtanen has determinedly and openly faced difficult questions, as well as her efforts to work in co-operation with different municipal agencies. “In my opinion, the portrait also reveals Kerttu’s other side, her relaxed nature and sense of humour. The twinkle in her eye is a suggestion of humaneness, attention and even amusement, even though she conducts herself very seriously at work,” says Ala-Maunus of the portrait.
“The work is wonderful. Strictly speaking, it is not really a portrait, but a work of art. I am an art-lover myself, and I think that life would be rather boring if you did not have artists around you,” says von Burghausen-Virtanen.
